Surge Support Child Care Project The Surge Support Child Care Project is a National model of respite child care to support the children of deployed Army National Guard and Army Reserve service members. With funding from the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies and the Department of Defense this project provides families with a list of licensed child care providers and centers in the state of Minnesota that will offer free child care services for a few hours or a few days per month to the families who are affected by deployment. Licensed child care providers in the state of Minnesota have received a recruitment flyer in the mail requesting that they volunteer to care for children for 2-4 hours per day/per month and/or offer up to two days of care per month and participate in the NACCRRA fee assistance program. Providers who participate in the fee assistance program will be paid up to $50 per day/per child based on their daily rate. Free training will be offered to participating child care providers. This training includes the military deployment cycle, indications of separation anxiety and stress in children and what happens during reintegration when the service member comes home. A training of trainers is scheduled to be held in St. Cloud on June 23 and 17 trainers have been identified to participate. A parent brochure introducing the Surge Support Child Care Project has been developed. The flyer will be distributed throughout the state via our connections with the National Guard and the Army Reserve.
