Curriculum Update

Curriculum changes to reflect the new 0-3 Early Childhood Indicators of Progress have now been written for all existing Not By Chance curriculum manuals.  They will be mailed out soon to NBC trainers with instructions for placement into the manuals.

Community Adaptation Guides

Because Not By Chance trainings are about introducing all providers to the tools of quality child care and school readiness for every child, we needed information from all of the diverse provider communities about how to meet language and culturally specific needs when training NBC.  The idea of a Community Adaptations Guide was born. Community-specific groups met and discussed ideas for training adaptations and delivery methods that would work best for the providers in their communities. The idea was that a collective guide would be developed using all the communities’ material, with ideas for universal best practices and community-specific training delivery.  Groups met separately, then came together at a retreat on April 14 to finalize the material for publication.  Led by Barbara Washington, experienced facilitator, curriculum writer and teacher with St. Paul Public Schools, the groups went through a series of exercises to build unity and purpose, and to agree among all as to what the final guide would contain.  Final guides will be printed and widely distributed soon. The hope is that this guide will be used universally for all trainings. Many thanks to everyone who has been involved!
