Program for Infant/Toddler Care (ITTI) Trainers Updates

Good infant care is neither baby-sitting nor preschool.
It is a special kind of care that resembles no other.”

A reminder about our newest PITC offerings

Often center staff, after taking the PITC training, want to implement changes in their infant and toddler rooms but aren't able to because their center director is not “on the same page”.  Center directors and program administrators are a crucial link to quality infant and toddler care environments and practices, and yet many have missed out on the PITC training.  The answer—two new adaptation resources, available from the Network:

  1. PITC for Directors – This is a new six hour training designed to provide a dynamic learning opportunity specifically for center directors or program administrators. The content has been formatted and identified based on the “felt need” of directors or administrators. These needs were identified through an initial survey, feedback from a content advisory committee and examples taken from the California PITC director’s training held in the summer of 2006. The course has been intentionally written as two separate, three-hour long sessions. At the end of session one, a homework assignment is given to demonstrate learning and facilitate actual implementation. It is strongly recommended that this training is offered by certified PITC trainers with in-depth knowledge of both Rule 3 and child care center administration, or a certified PITC trainer who co-trains with professionals that have this knowledge/experience.

  2. Trainer Adaptation Guides – All PITC trainers should become familiar with these trainer guides. They are designed to be used when directors or administrators are in the audience of a traditional PITC training session. The guides should be viewed as “living documents’ in that trainers can add scenarios and other ideas as they train with the needs of directors in mind.

To request a copy of the PITC for Directors training manual and/or the Trainer Adaptation Guides, contact Gail Mahr, Professional Development Coordinator, at gailm@mnchildcare.org , 651-290-9704, ext. 200. If you are interested in training the six hour class, please also contact your district CCR&R Professional Development Coordinator and let her know!

Coming Soon . . . Standard Class Names and Descriptions

CCR&Rs will soon be using standardized titles and descriptions for all PITC trainings it delivers. Professional development and communications/marketing staff at the Network will be reviewing each District’s PITC class offerings in order to develop standardized titles and descriptions for each lesson. This will enable providers to better determine what classes they have taken, and which ones will fulfill their training needs.  We hope this new “marketing” of the old “ITTI” classes will result in renewed interest in these wonderful trainings. We also anticipate better data tracking and planning for future PITC class offerings as a result.

PITC Videos Now Available on DVD

The MN CCR&R Network will be purchasing at least one set of the DVDs so that PITC classes delivered online via Eager-to-Learn can incorporate video. If funds become available, more DVDs will be purchased so that they can be loaned out to trainers. In the meantime, all CCR&Rs should have the entire library of PITC VHS videos available for loan, as well as the major public libraries
