Ounce Trainers

Update on the Ounce Research Project (ORP)

The Ounce Research Project (ORP) was officially launched this past August! Our research team has been busily collecting data, and the ORP trainers busy working with their caseload of study providers. ORP trainers are testing some new features to the Ounce curriculum, including telephone follow-up contacts with providers. We are excited to learn more about this particular Ounce training model and appreciate the time, energy and skill our Ounce trainers bring to ORP.

We are working on an on-line venue for trainers to share their experiences, questions, joys and concerns. Look for this to be up and running in January.

Update on The Ounce Scale MN Child Care Project

Great News! We have funding in this year's budget to support the ongoing professional development of certified Ounce trainers. The plan is that trainers will receive a reimbursement stipend after submitting a copy of their clock-hour certificate for attending a class on the Minnesota Early Learning Guidelines (ELGs) for Infants and Toddlers. Julie Wasiluk and I are still working out the details, so stay tuned.

In addition, we have funds for pilot projects to introduce Ounce to caregivers of immigrant communities and to FFN (family, friend, and neighbor) and Foster caregivers. I will be contacting each of you, beginning in January, regarding these future plans for Ounce training and your interest/involvement.

We have learned a lot about the Ounce training model and follow-up support for implementation. Curriculum updates and revised materials are in process. Thank you for all the testimonials, pictures, and resources you have submitted. Your real-life experiences greatly improve this project!

Take care. Think SNOW! M
