MENTORING FOR TRAINERS

There are two options to obtain certification as a PITC trainer (Mentoring is available for both options.):

  1. Option 1 – Write and submit certification paper to West Ed for national certification.

  2. Option 2 – Minnesota PITC trainer obtains Minnesota Certification that is valid only in the state of Minnesota

What is Minnesota Certification?

  • It is a process by which Minnesota ITTI trainers can obtain certification in each of the PITC/West Ed Modules.

  • Minnesota certification candidate will work with a Mentor Trainer to complete the certification process. Process includes:

    • Working with Mentor Trainer to develop/design training outline

    • Delivering an observed PITC training or trainings in the module or modules candidate is seeking certification in

    • Working with Mentor Trainer after the training or trainings to discuss observation(s) and plans for future development

Who can apply and obtain the Minnesota Certification?

  • Anyone who has been trained by WestEd in the PITC curriculum.

  • Priority will be given to Minnesota PITC trainers who are not certified by PITC/West Ed.

How can a trainer apply for assistance with either certification option?

  • Minnesota PITC trainers will complete and return application and send it to the CCR&R Network office by Nov. 30, 2006 . (Click here for application [Microsoft Word])

  • Applicants will be called for an interview and assigned to a Mentor Trainer in December. Mentor Trainers will be available for assistance through May, 2007.

  • Applicants for the Minnesota Certification process will have 7 months to complete the Minnesota Certification Process:

    • Nov./Dec. – Applications, Interviews of mentees.

    • Dec. through May – Months to complete the Minnesota Certification process.

    • June 15 – Last day to submit the recommendation for certification. By the end of June, successful applicants will receive a Minnesota Certification and those who need more work to complete the certification will be notified by mail.
